Night Safari
The world's first Night Safari*, set in 40 hectares of secondary jungle, will unfold the mystery and drama of the tropical jungle after dusk with stunning effects. See a myriad of nocturnal animals, from fierce predators to timid forest dwellers, in their natural habitat under subtle moonglow lighting. With priority boarding, you won't have to wait in line to board the tram which takes you through the East and West Loop. Pass by a large reservoir and weave through selected habitats designed specifically to replicate the natural environment from the Himalayan Foothills to the Southeast Asian Rainforest and Indian Subcontinent. Let the guide take you on a walking trail to view some animals at close quarters. There will also be an opportunity to catch either the Thumbuakar performance of fire-eating skills OR a 20 minutes animal extravaganza at the Creatures of the Night Show, subject to weather conditions. You can choose to add on a buffet meal of local favourites and international cuisine in a charmingly rustic setting at Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant.

While the tour itself was enjoyable, I now understand some of the less favorable reviews. The tram ride was nice, but it would have been much better if the driver came to a complete stop for photo opportunities. Even at a slow pace, many of the photos came out blurry, some more than others. Overall, the concept is great, but there’s definitely room for improvement to create a more complete experience. It would also help to allocate more time for the walking trails. We were only given about 35 minutes of free time to either eat or explore the trails, and we chose to eat since most restaurants would be closed by the time we got back to the hotel.

The animals in the amphitheater are well trained and cute but the program is short. Loved the tram ride and seeing the animals in their natural habitat. Excellent coach driver.

Excellent experience. Great way to see the animals that would not normally be active through out the day

This tour starts out slow but gets much better with time. Is a 30-40 minute bus ride to the Safari. The guide talks most of the way there with what appears to be marginally useful information. Once you get there, his counsel becomes much more useful. Two things that the reservation does not tell you—bring bug spray as the mosquitoes can be thick and wear solid walking shoes. On arrival, you will be taken to the wildlife show—short and worth the time. On leaving the show you can take the train or walk the grounds. You have 90 minutes on your own. Bypass the train as there could be a wait, and you can’t stop at attractions that you think are of importance. Forget taking pictures. It is deliberately dark and the animals are nocturnal and moving. I have attached my best photo, but it comes out a bit blurry. The walk is a bit over a mile. Try to keep the light on your phone off. Staying dark adapted is a must. You will see the animals moving if you do. This is unlike any daytime zoo. After dark, the humidity goes up quickly. Carry water and a sweat rag. I did not have a problem with the mosquitoes, but they are legendary on this part of the island. Watch your step. There are a few uneven points on the trail. This is well worth doing if you want to see nocturnal animal in action. You will not see anything like this in a daytime zoo.

The tour started with the driver being 30 minutes late to pick us up , we had to call twice to find out was going on & if we were going to get picked up. The lady that answered the call couldn’t find our booking at the start but after she found it we were still not given much information and asked to call back if the driver didn’t arrive within 5 minutes. Once the driver arrived he was speeding to get us to our destination, there was another couple already on the van when it picked us up and they too were worried about his driving. The night zoo experience itself was a let down, it was very hard to see the animals and what was supposed to be a guided tour ended up being a self guided tour, as the guide told us that since our group was large we should all choose which paths we wanted to explore ourselves and meet at a pre determined time afterwards. We did not get to see the fire show after the tour as it had ended. Overall a very disappointing experience and not what it was made out to be . The zoo itself is very large and would have been better to explore during the day time . I do not recommend this tour and cannot justify the cost. Disappointed

Not a bad night out. Our guide Nicholas was exceptional. Very clear communication about pickup and advice on which activities to see. Night Safari very crowded with very small viewing windows. Train was great enjoyed it.

Animal show very weak Fire show poorly located so impossible to see. Tram was surprisingly good but unfortunately we were in last car so when stopped for photo spot we were not in the clearing yet. Guide did not engage or speak well.

We didn’t find this good value for money - we were told that the zoo has 5 different sections to visit, but our tour only gave us access to the amphitheater and tram, plus a very short walk where we didn’t see any animals. The be only perk was that we didn’t have to wait in line. We’d suggest taking a self guided tour instead. Arrive a little earlier so you can see more of the animals before it gets dark.
