It’s worth noting this is a long day and you might not make it back to Melbourne until well after midnight. In saying that it’s a great day out. And the drive is quite pretty, especially through the Yarra. William was a lovely guide who was eager to make sure everyone had a good time. Puffing Billy is the highlight, but it’s worth doing the Rochford tasting. Lunch at the chocolate venue is fine but try and take dinner with you to the penguins as the food there is bad. If you’re keen to do all these activities, this is a compact day trip that delivers.

It was a great group, we had a great time with Lion, he was friendly and cared for the well-being of all of us. The chocolate factory is a quick visit, but if you organize, you can buy some items and enjoy, after that we went to have lunch and visited the vineyard. Next activity was jumping on the train, it was fabulous, and the penguis were a great experience. If you don't have much time, this tour includes all the best things to do!

Approx 15 hours trip, from 8.30am pickup time & back to Melbourne at about 11.45pm. Most of the time spent on bus travelling. No power point in the bus to charge phones despite they claim it as luxury coach. The first itinerary was the 25 mins puffing train ride, which was fun but prepare to inhale coal smoke. The right side of the train has indeed better view so make sure to queue up early. Yarra Valley Chocolaterie was second, however it wasn't fun. Just like stopping by a shop for sample tasting. Restaurant is available in this shop but long queue. Winery tasting was next & requires extra $15 per pax but not compulsory to those who don't partake alcohol. There's a restaurant there too & we enjoyed exploring the grape farm. Next stop was the Maru Zoo. It was small but we had fun taking photos up close with kangaroos. They were like half dead lying on the grass and allow humans to touch/pet them. For koala however we could only see them from outside the fence. Taking photos up close with them is possible but requires extra $55 per couple. The last itinerary was the penguin parade. On the way there we stopped by MacDonalds for a quick dinner but that outlet was quite filthy. Totally culture shock. But this place has power point to charge phones. Upon reaching the penguin parade, there's a building at the entrance which consists of souvenir shops & super long queue toilets. This building connects the beach via metal deck walkway (approx 400 meter long) & along the way we saw many wild animals. At the beach viewing deck, it was fun to see cute little wild penguins swimming back to shore in the evening. We were lucky to see more than 20 of them walking up the beach at 9pm and many more below the metal deck walkway after dark. Sunset time was at 9pm when we went there during summer. We left at 9.45pm & took 2 hours bus ride back to Melbourne. Overall it was a good trip & recommended.

This was probably my favorite part of my trip so far, though I was disappointed that the planning seemed off. We weren't able to go to Maru which was the reason I booked this particular tour over others, due to time shortage but then we ended up spending 30 min at McDonald's due to a surplus of time. They also realized the night before that the wineries would be closed (on Jan 1st) and I feel that's the kind of detail to look into in advance. They squeezed in another winery and I didn't care about that part personally but the planning doesn't seem to be very thorough and that's another symptom. I would understand if there were unforseen circumstances like unexpected traffic or something, but this was purely due to failure to plan in advance and it resulted in missing a major component of the tour and again subbing for McDonald's because other travelers I guess decided not to eat at the lunch stop and instead complained of being hungry 30 min later. It was kind of the tour guide to accommodate them, but frustrating for those of us who worked to adhere to the stated timelines at each stop. I didn't get to thank our guide because the van ride on the way back was so unbearably cold that I just ran right out the door into my warm hotel room. Even the penguin parade I was not could, but that van was Antarctica on the way home (it was fine the rest of the day). The guide was very helpful and well informed, though I didn't get the chance to thank him.

The day was fully packed, no decisions needed to be made. And being driven around, I was able to enjoy the scenery. The Penguins were great and William was very friendly and approachable.
