Wanaka’s boat and 4×4 tour brings you the best of both worlds with views from the lake and land looking over remote islands and National Parks. From start to finish we are off the beaten path, no people, truly remote, truly stunning. The best place to enjoy the views and your gourmet picnic!
The 4 hour tour departs from the Wanaka Marina and includes a 20 minutes boat ride to and from the base of Mt. Burke where you and your guide board our 4x4.

What To Expect
Wanaka Water Taxi and Wanaka 4x4 Explorer
We will meet you on the jetty of the Wanaka Marina on Lakeside Road. Parking is very limited in the marina and not allowed on the graveled area. You can drive past the marina and park on the left side of Lakeside Rd once it turns up the hill. Or walk from the town center.
Lake Wanaka
Wanaka’s boat and 4×4 tour brings you the best of both worlds with views from the lake and land looking over remote islands and the National Park. From start to finish we are off the beaten path, no people, truly remote, truly stunning. Your trip starts by boating up Lake Wanaka towards the head of Stevenson’s arm with tremendous views of glacier carved mountains, a constantly changing vista of steep walls and alpine peaks. We cruise past Stevenson’s Island to our landing point at the foot of Mt Burke. Boarding our 4×4 Vehicle we climb above the lake, your view expands until all of Lake Wanaka lays before you in a stunning panorama of crystal clear blue water and the alpine peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park. Take some time to enjoy the solitude and enjoy the best view in Wanaka! Your guide will give you an insight into the history of the farm station and the geology of the Alps and some of the stories of the early settlers while you enjoy your gourmet picnic.

3.00This is an overpriced excursion that is not well run; very casual attitude by staff; seat belts discouraged. You get tossed around in a jeep up a steep hill where views are of the lake only. Stop a few times but dialogue of staff boring. Also major stop is for a so called picnic of wine and cheese and fruit—no meat. Waste of time and money.

5.00We had an amazing time from start to finish. Very well orgsnised. We started with a water taxi ride across Lake Wanaka to a sheep station. We were taken up a very steep hill, at the top we had the most amazing views, wome of the best in NZ. Our guide was very helpful and informative.

5.00The best view you gonna get whith a glass of wine. The way up was proper 4x4 action going up the hill, thanks to driver Tony. Even my sixteen year old son liked the experience.

5.00New tour leaving from Wanaka. Boat out to Stevenson Arm and hike an undulating but not over challenging 4.5 ims over jeep track and sheep trails with the option of a 20 minute climb up to a lookout which is worth it. Head down to the end and pick up point for a refreshing swim. A fun way to spend a few hours on the water and on private land, Take water and snacks. Walking poles helpful on the dry and slippery grass on the lookout climb. Well organized and great communication from Wanakawatertaxis

5.00This tour was outstanding and a true highlight of our time in Wanaka. It begins with a scenic water taxi ride out to a private high-country station, where you pass through paddocks filled with sheep and learn about local farming practices, including how the flock is carefully managed to encourage twin lambs. The transition from lake to 4x4 is seamless, and from there the adventure really takes off. Our guide, Sean, was exceptional – warm, engaging, and deeply knowledgeable about both the land and its history. He explained the workings of the station, shared fascinating details about Manuka honey and its healing properties, and spoke with genuine appreciation for the natural beauty, which made the experience feel even more meaningful. His commentary added a personal and inspiring dimension to an already memorable day. The 4x4 drive up the mountain was exhilarating without ever feeling unsafe. As we climbed higher, the views opened up to reveal stunning lakes, valleys, and surrounding peaks, culminating in a windswept, secluded lookout where the combination of strong gusts and sweeping panoramas was absolutely thrilling. The scenery from the top is simply spectacular and offers a perspective you would never get from town or standard walking tracks. This tour is clearly run by professionals who love what they do, and it shows in every detail — from the seamless logistics to the thoughtful guiding and genuine care for guests. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a unique, informative, and spiritually uplifting way to experience the best of Lake Wanaka and its high country.

5.00Morning Adventure to Mt Burke: Our day began with an exciting journey to Mt Burke. Tony, our driver, made the experience truly memorable with his excellent driving skills as he navigated the winding roads up the hill. Throughout the ascent, he provided detailed explanations of the region and terrain, enriching our understanding of the area. The weather was nearly perfect, adding to the enjoyment of our adventure. The 4x4 ride up Mt Burke was exhilarating, offering a thrilling start to the day. Once we reached the hills, we wrapped up this part of our adventure with a pleasant picnic amid breathtaking scenery. 5.00A five star experience from start to finish. It starts with a cruise over the lake where you are picked up in a 4x4 to explore the private estate. The views are awesome when the conditions are good. It's a bone shaker of a ride but totally worth it. Krystal and Sean were both fantastic. We will recommend to others.
