What To Expect
Southern Alps Air - Scenic Flights
Milford Sound Glacier Flight & Cruise from Wanaka. Depart Wanaka Airport and enjoy views of the Clutha River and Lakes Wanaka and Hawea before reaching the rugged Southern Alps. Travel through 2 National Parks with views of many glaciers, waterfalls, mountain lakes, ice, sno and much more. Upon reaching the West Coast of NZ you turn into Milford Sound and fly the full length of the fiord. Once safely landed at Milford you will join the scenic boat cruise to enjoy spectacular views from the water. Your pilot will meet you off the boat and fly you back to Wanaka on a different flight path so you can see even more spectacular landscape. Departure times are 8.45am and 1.30pm October through April and 11am May Through September. Allow 4 hours.

5.00From start to finish, an awesome experience. The flight into Milton, over the mountains, was amazing. And the pilot was very detailed in pointing out the landmarks, valleys, rivers, peaks, glaciers. The cruise had plenty of room to move about, and loads of viewing points. Never felt crowded. Really good commentry as well. Staff on board were excelent. Scenery has to be seen to be believed, the sheer scale of the cliffs, the watetfalls, wildlife etc. Flight back, still had the great comentry, and skillfull piloting. Overall, has to be full marks!!!
The flight over the Alps and also the shipping through the fjord were overwhelming🤩 A must have on the South Island!!

5.00Scenery that leaves you speechless. Must do activity, we really loved the scenic flight in to Milford Sound from Wanaka with Southern Alps Air. Pilot Ryan was excellent.

5.00This was an absolute incredible experience! We wanted to see Milford Sound but soon realised that we didn’t have time for the long drive. We found this company online and booked the trip from Wanaka Airport. The company is a family run business and they took great pride in making sure that we all had the best 5* experience. Flying over the snow capped mountains took our breath away - literally, we were lost for words! Our pilot was very friendly and knowledgeable. After the flight over the mountains he flew us down the length of Milford Sound - another breathtaking moment. We then boarded our boat for the cruise up and down - another incredible experience! An amazing part of the world! Following this our pilot flew us back to Wanaka a different route and once again he made sure our journey was top notch.

5.00It was lovely and memorable. Our family from Cape Town enjoyed every moment. The pilot was professional and caring and kind. It was sold to us as a helicopter flight but ut was a plane. Still nice, but mis-selling and a bit of a let down. Overall though a happy and enjoyable time.

5.00It's an amazing experience and I don't like flying. It's expensive, but it's worth all the money it costs. There were only 6 of us on the plane and my husband was a co-pilot. After 45' seeing incredible scenery we arrived at Milford sound and the cruise was also beautiful. The super professional and charming pilot.

2.00It was supposed to be 4 hour tour, but was shortened by 3 hours because we couldn't land in Milford Sound, for the boat segment, due to wind. Understandable. However, the cost of the booking was $720.00 and they refunded us $95.00. So they charged us $624 (two people - $312 each) for a one hour plane ride. I wouldn't have booked this for that amount of money. Disappointed.
