Michaelmas Cay
Located 22 nautical miles (40 km) from Cairns, the same as the distance across the English Channel, and close to the outer reef systems, Michaelmas Cay is the largest of the uninhabited coral cays in the Cairns region; in fact it is huge in comparison. Seastar is the first vessel to arrive at Michaelmas Cay. Very few tour vessels are now permitted access to this sensitive island and now there are only two which travel daily that are permitted the right to use and access the Cay.
Outer Great Barrier Reef Snorkel Tour includes luxury catamaran cruise all equipment and two guided snorkel tours

Diving on the Great Barrier Reef as to be expected was fantastic. Great friendly staff and really good food at lunchtime. The day with SeaStar was snorkelling, glass bottomed boat and diving for those who were qualified.

Don't think twice and just book this tour. We had a experience on the Seastar. We boarded promptly at 7:30 am, snorkeled st two sites and arrived back at the marina by 3:30. We saw so many sea creatures and the crew was knowledgable and friendly.

Among all the offers there are in Cairns, I am so glad I found this one! Very nice, young and familiar crew that takes care of you at all times. I went with my parents, both retired, and they had a lovely time! I am so grateful especially for having Maria as our snorkel guide-she ensured my mom was doing OK and checking on her during the experience. Also heads up to Pierre, who translated in Spanish for her. Overall, an amazing day! Thank you guys! And thanks for the pictures!

A great family business making it all very personal. Fast boat out to the middle & outer reef - truly stunning! Excellent opportunities for snorkeling on your own or with a guide. Very good lunch on board. Glass bottom boat on Michaelmas Cay which was excellent.

The best service of any boat trip I've been on. They made sure each of the 35 guests were looked after at all times. We went to great locations, food ok, reasonable equipment but the staff really made it great.

All of the crew were very friendly and the food provided was delicious! Having the option to have a guided snorkel or just go independently was nice too. Would absolutely recommend booking with Seastar!

Do yourselves a favour and book this tour. The crew gives you clear boundaries to protect yourselves and the reef, but you get so much freedom. As they said, "the world is your oyster". They offer guided snorkels and the glass bottom boat ride, but they're also happy if you just want to go off and do your own thing. They offer floaties and lifejackets, as well as prescription masks if needed. Zero leakage in the mask, and they were happy to swap my snorkel out when I had some problems with it, and from then I barely lifted my head from the water. Michaelmas Cay is amazing, quite shallow all along, so you can see the corals really closely, and the sea birds flock there by the hundreds. My sister and I went off on our own here and saw a manta ray! The second stop, Hastings Reef, was my favourite. Shallow parts so you can float over the corals, but also deep chasms that I loved swimming along, and parts where the corals end and you're just staring into the depths of the ocean. Huge shoals of large fish, every colour of parrotfish and butterflyfish you could think of, and every fish from Finding Nemo seems to be here too. Highlights include my first ever sea turtle on the guided snorkel, as well as a little bluespotted stingray on my own exploration! So much variation between these two spots, and you really get a lot of time in the water due to the boat being so fast. An absolutely unforgettable experience. Thank you Seastar crew!

Descirbed as catamaran, it is NOT. Air conditioned vessel, I would question this Seastar state "maximum of only 36 per day", well due to the size of the vessel you cannot fit more, indeed with 36 it was difficult to find a place to sit for the journey in and out. Also, due to the small size of the vessel when there are side waves it can be bit sea sick feeling Complain about the vessel only, Crew were very good
