• Frustrated and Left Standing!

  My husband and I were incredibly disappointed with our interactions with Out’n About Fishing Charters. We were looking forward to the half day experience we had booked to go on, 2 days earlier. On arrival at the wharf we noticed there were 2 boats moored together and were informed that the main boat had now been booked as a Private Charter (I’m guessing this happened after we made our booking) and that we were to transfer onto a much smaller boat which was moored against the Private Charter vessel. There was no real explanation other than we were instructed to move onto the smaller boat. I asked about shade, like the main boat and was told that it was going to be too difficult to organise any. It was already hot and considering we were to be on the boat for 4 hours, without any form of shade, was concerning. It was then that we were asked to step off the Private Charter boat and down into the smaller vessel (which looked similar to a tinny) with help from the crew. It was at this point that my iPhone knocked against the railing, fell into the water and sank! They showed no interest in the fact that I’d lost my phone and said that he didn’t think it would be a good idea for me to go ahead with the fishing experience. He said he would refund our money. They were quick to move us on and we were left standing on the jetty, feeling bewildered as the 2 boats set off across the water. Another boat was moored on the other side of the jetty and a crew member from that vessel enquired as to what we were looking for. We told him that my phone had been knocked into the water as we were transferring from one boat to the other. One of their crew members kindly hopped into the water to try and find it, although unsuccessful with this venture. The rest of our day saw us hiring a car and driving to Cairns to purchase a new phone- a very costly experience. To sum up- think carefully before you commit to a fishing cruise with this company.

  Our fishing guide was super professional, experienced the gear and boat was spot on, and above all the trip was excellent even though the fish weren’t on the chew us much as we’d liked, the Out and About captain kept targeting the best spots to keep us in the action.

  Fantastic morning complete with fish caught by all 5 of us and spotting a big croc. Christian was fun, informative and patient. Will definitely do it again.

  We reserved this tour well in advance and had a confirmed date and time for over a month. We traveled a long way to be there, so it was incredibly frustrating to be contacted just a couple of days before the tour and asked to reschedule — with no alternative offered for the original day. The reason given was simply that they “won’t be working this weekend,” despite the long-standing confirmation. We already had other plans on the new date, so we ended up missing out entirely. Looking back, we noticed other reviews mentioning similar issues, which we had initially dismissed as one-offs. Unfortunately, the lack of consideration for the customer doesn’t seem to be that uncommon. If you’re on a fixed schedule or coming from out of town, think twice before booking.

  We booked this tour well over a month in advance and made a long trip to be there. Just two days before, the operator contacted us to say they needed to move our booking—without offering any alternative on the same day. We already had another tour planned for the new date, so we were left with no options and no experience. It was deeply disappointing and felt poorly handled. If your time is limited or you’re traveling from afar, I’d think twice before booking.

  This charter although highly anticipated by the whole family was NOT kid friendly. I explain to ignore my ADHD daughter’s comments. It’s hard on a daily saying sorry where ever we go but this one was next level. Actually made me sad to hear the huffing, signing and under the breath comments toward her as she asked about when would we get fish over and over again very normal behaviour for her. The reactions were obvious and uncomfortable for both me and my husband and to a young girl this way was heart breaking. I actually shut down my self after a bit, normally people engage with her and then she can shine not today. People want to share a love of the water and fishing with family, I get a small holiday once a year and was so looking forward to fishing with my girls. Now I’m just sad and prob won’t ever try it again. Maybe if there were some rules explained at the beginning of a trip it might be a little easier for parents to assist so “captain “ isn’t under so much pressure. I was unsure if I was allowed to I bait or do I have to wait, should I be here or there? Even simple say no eating that would have saved a melt down. Just a simple do’s and don’t would have helped. We had a couple small fish kids would have really loved that, had they not been made feel like an inconvenience the whole time. I loved the boat I enjoyed the little fish we caught but did not enjoy the trip it’s was just a negative experience. That has make our whole family a bit deflated.

  What an absolute disaster. Drove from Palm Cove to Port Douglas for 8am start. Hardly a ripple on the ocean and was hoping for a great day on the reef. Lots of other charters leaving to go to the reef. That’s where it ended. The guide turned up in a 3.6m tinny saying there was no way we were going out because it was too rough - absolute rubbish. Fished amongst the mangroves for 3.5 hours in 3 seperate places no further than 600m from the launch site, and the best caught was a 25cm rock cod. But got hit by 60+ midgies. I asked for some repellant - they had none. All we got supplied was 1 bottle each (500ml) of water. What a rip-off

  Matt’s communication was the best you could ask for, from the moment we booked til the time he dropped us back at the boat ramp. We had a perfect day out on the water and even managed a little swim on the reef. Matt had us on the fish all day and we were able to tick off a lot of bucket fish.   A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with Matt who is an excellent skipper. Weather meant we fished only the estuary and his competent guiding lead to sufficient catching opportunities to make the trip very worthwhile Matt has a new boat coming and it looks a great choice

  Peter the skipper was great. Went to 3 fishing spots and caught plenty of fish at each spot. Would highly recommend and book again. 5⭐️
