Spend quality time with one of the world's most exotic animals. You trek with your own llama, who walks on a lead, at your side, while carrying your belongings in saddle bags.

Llama are highly intelligent, clever animals = requiring that you get to know them (and work with them) to successfully complete your trek. The subtle 'bond' you form with your llama companion is highly rewarding.

You experienced guide will help you get to know your woolly companion.

Your guide will also share a range of local Kaikoura history and information, including the extraordinary effects of the 2016 earthquake (the largest ever recorded in New Zealand)

You do not ride your llama.

Great walk. Learnt so much from Kevin and new appreciation of the behaviours of llamas and how they act. I've also learnt that it is the alpacas stirring the viscous robot about llamas and spitting. These llamas Harry and Archie were great companions. Scenery was stunning with a beautiful day.

Our family of four had such a great time on our llama trek! With two young kids it’s often difficult to get them both focused on a prolonged walk or hike. This was a perfect way to engage and keep them focused while exploring a beautiful new place. If you are in Kaikoura this is a must do!!

One of our favorite experiences in our New Zealand trip so far! Kevin had a wealth of knowledge about Llamas and was an expert at guiding you on how to handle them. This experience is very unique and you learn to bond with the Llamas over the course of the walk. The walk itself is alongside the beach, flat and very picturesque. Would highly recommend!

Kevin was a great guide and share lots of interesting story about the area. We learnt a lot abt the llama and their characteristic. It has been an amazing experience for our family and we thoroughly enjoyed the trek, beautiful coastal walk and beautiful and sometime “naughty” animal. :)

  • A lovely way to learn about llamas and see the beautiful Kaikoura coast.

Really loved our coastal llama walk. The llamas welfare is at the heart of this tour and making sure that guests understand how to interact with them and make sure the llamas have a wonderful time too. We got some llama basics before setting off along the coast. We had a lovely trek across mixed terrain along to one of the famous seal colonies where there was the option to go see the seals. Along the way back we stopped for a wee coffee and cake too which was ace fun. It was lovely when my designated llama, Archie, felt more comfortable with me and he was an absolute delight to trek with. I’d really recommend this tour as something a bit different - the llamas are clearly very well cared for and adored and it’s a fun unique experience.

What’s perfect about this tour is the wellbeing and care of the llamas is paramount. Kevin clearly cares for them very much so we had a really helpful induction before starting our trek. It was lovely to see both the guests and llamas relax more and more as the trek went on. We trekked out to one of the famous seal colonies so you’re walking on some really beautiful terrain, whilst also giving the llamas plenty time to eat along the route. There was plenty time for photos too and a wee picnic on the way home. I’d never really had any quality interaction with a llama before and have come away feeling I know so much more about how to interact and treat them. Thank you Kevin!

Unfortunately as I was the only person booked for the tour it had to be cancelled (with a full refund). They did approach me 4 days prior via email informing of the potential cancellation and offered a rearranged booking however this was not an option for me so they updated right up to the time and cancelled with full refund. Would love to do the event of course but excellent communication and flexibility.

A must do in Kaikoura! You get to see the beautiful mountains, the beach and the seal colony while going for a walk with a fully grown super cute Llama. I learned a lot about kaikouras history and about Llamas, wich are very underrated animals in my opinion. The guide Kevin was very happy to take some good Pictures of me along the way and gave us some drinks and snacks for a picnic. I really liked my Lama, Rupert, so I came back to do the short track with him as well xD
