Salt Fields
Pick up you and transfer out of town to see the Salt Fields. You will see how to famers work on the Salt Fields. Cambodia exports a variety of goods, including salt products. Cambodia is capable of producing enough salt for domestic use as well as export. The majority of the goods are produced in Kampot, which is close to the sea.
Phnom Chhngok Cave Temple
Drive to Phnom Chhngok Cave Temple. travelling there on the winding dirt road, especially by motorbike, could be very tiring. However, passing past scenic views of the Cambodian countryside, featuring paddy fields, small farms and limestone formations, covered in dense vegetation, should suitably compromise. The mountain is a hulking limestone karst, which houses many hidden chambers, rocky outcrops and stalactites, formed by calcium carbonate solution. The largest cave is the home of an ancient red brick temple resting under a massive rock formation resembling an eagle. Phnom Chhngok Cave temple was probably erected during the 7th century, particularly within a pre-Angkorian era known as the Funan period in Cambodia.

Our guide, Roy was great, a safe and careful driver, informative and entertaining. We would thoroughly recommend Roy and this tour, it’s a great half day out. We had the choice of visiting one of two pepper plantations. We chose the locally run plantation, Bo Tree Farm and we were pleased that we did as the experience there felt much more natural and rewarding.

Rany was suggested to us by a fellow traveller. We easily booked an afternoon tour with him, and he picked us up in town. Rany drives very carefully, and showed us interesting places, as promised. It was a great day!

Wandon, our tuk-tuk driver, also acted as our guide. He had a great sense of humor, spoke fluent English, and knew the sites we were going to visit perfectly, and much more. I highly recommend him. Be prepared, however, for a bumpy road to reach the cave.

We had a day out to the Salt fields, the Phnom Chhngok cave, the secret lake and the Bo Tree pepper farm with an absolutely amazing guy called Roy. A truly lovely guy, couldn't do enough for us, so informative and interesting, real fun guy to spend time with, if you lived over here, the kind of guy you would like as a friend to spend time with socially. He explained in detail the history and uses of each area and made the suggestion as to which pepper farm we visited. Bo Tree has young overseas volunteer workers who take you on a tour of the farm, explaining pepper production and then take you through a tasting at the end of it. All in all such an amazing day out, one of the best we've ever had worldwide.

One of the highlights of our entire 2 weeks in Cambodia! Roy is such an incredible guide, with so much historical knowledge and personal experience that he so generously shares with his guests. He is an incredible story teller with impeccable self-taught English, and each site we went to Roy was able to make history come to life with this personal anecdotes, historical knowledge, and sharp humor. We initially just booked the half day country side tour that went to the elephant cave, salt fields/secret lake, and pepper plantation. For the pepper plantation Roy took us to a plantation that was family owned rather than the big foreign owned touristy one which we really appreciated. By the end of this half day tour we felt like we still wanted to explore more and hear more from Roy, so we ended up adding on a trip up to Bokor mountain (this is listed as a seperate booking on Viator/Trip Advisor). It was a very worth-while addition, with a completely different atmosphere and quite a few historical landmarks on top. Overall, a wonderful way to spend a half or full day in Kampot with your expert local guide Roy :)
