A tour that "cruise" the city of Dunedin and Larnach Castle.
Sit back and relax and let Horizon Tours introduce you to Dunedin and its iconic buildings and landmarks.
Pick up is from Port Chalmers and en-route to Dunedin City we'll see the world's steepest street, Baldwin Street, our covered Sports Stadium and the University campus.
After stretching our legs at Baldwin Street we make our way towards the city centre to learn more about the city's history and view some of Dunedin's iconic landmarks including the Railway Station, Law Court House, First Church of Otago and other historic buildings in the city centre.
We next drive along the picturesque Otago Peninsula en-route to Larnach Castle where guests will have up to 90 mins of free time exploring the castle and gardens, maybe grab a cup of tea from the castle cafe.
After Larnach Castle we may have some free time to see more of the city centre before making our way back to the cruise ship.

Suitable for all physical fitness levels
Please wear closed-toed footwear and comfortable clothing Dunedin is often windy and sometimes a wet city.
Medium level of fitness required, 20-30 minute walk included.
At time of booking, Cruise ship passengers must provide the following information at time of booking: ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and re-boarding time.
There is no lift or elevator inside Larnach Castle (that has multiple flights of stairs).

What To Expect
Port Chalmers
After greetings and picked up at Port Chalmers terminals, we travel the 16kms / 10 miles towards Dunedin City along a lovely harbour side drive and slowly get a feel of the Edinburgh of the south.
Baldwin Street - World's Steepest Street!
See, walk, run or just stand on the world's steepest residential street.

5.00Our tour guide James was wonderful. He tailored the tour to the desires of our small group. We were given ample time to explore on our own which allowed us all to see different things. For me, the gardens at Larnach castle were a huge surprise. Thanks to the flexibility I was able to spend my time outside photographing the extensive plant material as my partner and tour mates were able to do interior tours and lunch.

5.00Great tour to get a small sense of the area. James is a wonderful tour guide. Our ship changed departure time to much earlier and james quickly said lets meet earlier and had us back to our ship in plenty of time. He gave us a tour of college area , famous steep street , train station , castle , town and had lots of facts. No way you could see all this on foot.

5.00We toured Dunedin with James of Horizon Tours. Our cruise ship changed the time to an earlier time for embarkation and James was very accommodating. He made sure we were back to the ship at an earlier time and no worries! The van was very comfortable and James showed us the sights of Dunedin. We also toured the Castle and had plenty of time to do a little shopping in town before heading back to the ship. This definitely is the tour for you if you want to pack a lot of the sights in with limited time.

5.00We had a great day with James, who explained everything we passed. We were a fun group of 6 with equal interest in Dunedin and its surroundings. The castle visit was nicer than expected, especially the gardens are beautiful. Thank you for making this stop in Dunedin special!

5.00We had a wonderful experience and our tour guide is James. He was very informative providing us with highlights along the way and just made our experience very enjoyable. He made sure he gave us enough time to take photos, especially one of us is needing more time to move about, while at the same time ensuring we are on schedule. We had coffee and snack at the Larnach Castle, and was pleasantly surprised. The food as AWESOME !! One recommendation for Larnach Castle: Please have all those big buses drop their passengers on the side of the castle vs on the front of the castle. It is very annoying when the view is continuously blocked by big buses. Bus after bus after bus. Just walk 30 steps from left or ride side of the castle ..... come on people ... Thank you James for sharing your wonderful home with us and giving us a wonderful experience.
