Cape Range Explorer – One Day Trekking Adventure
Step off the map and into the real Cape Range on this intimate small-group hike with exclusive off-track access. With a max of 6 guests, we trek to a remote ridgeline with sweeping views of the North West Cape and Ningaloo Reef. After a hearty bush lunch in a scenic and unforgettable spot, we head to the coast, walking along white sand beaches, ancient Holocene coastal dunes, and limestone headlands, with a swim in the turquoise lagoon just metres away. Time permitting, we finish with a quiet moment at Mangrove Bay or a final climb up a coastal dune for one last panoramic view before returning to Exmouth.
Wildlife, wildflowers, ancient geology and vast open space—this is Cape Range, the way most never get to see it—a wild guided day of connection, discovery and fresh perspective.

This trek is for hikers with novice to intermediate skill levels or moderate fitness and agility. Expect one or two short treks, typically spanning 6 kilometres, subject to weather conditions and the group's fitness level. These treks entail navigating steep rocky gullies and uneven terrain, with daypacks weighing up to 4 kilograms. During certain seasons, daytime temperatures can soar above 30°C, adding to the challenge posed by the terrain and distance.

What To Expect
Join us on an immersive one-day journey through the rugged beauty of Cape Range National Park and the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Coast. We begin the day with a guided off-track hike along a remote ridgeline, offering sweeping views over the North West Cape and the turquoise waters of Ningaloo Reef. Along the way, you’ll learn about the ancient geology, arid-zone ecology, and unique wildlife that make this region so extraordinary. We pause for a hearty bush lunch in a quiet scenic spot—one of those places you’ll never forget. In the afternoon, we descend through coastal plains and ancient Holocene dunes to a secluded beach, where a refreshing swim in the lagoon is never far away. To finish, we take a short walk at Mangrove Bay or climb a coastal dune for one last panoramic view of the reef-fringed coastline before returning to Exmouth. This is a day of walking, wondering, and slowing down—just a few kilometres on foot, but millions of years through time. 5.00Ian was a great tour leader. He loved what he was doing...knew heaps about the area, and all the special spots to see unique views. It was a fantastic day. Make sure you have a water bottle and sunscreen...and you'll be in for a true treat.

5.00We LOVED this trip with Ian. It was a great walk through intriguing Aussie landscapes with some wonderful views. Informative, fun and delightful. He took us way off the beaten track to see views that very few get to experience. It was worth it for the lunch spot alone.

5.00I'm so glad I stumbled on this tour- it was one of the highlights of my trip! Cape Range is a beautiful place with gorges, creek, interesting creatures, plains and reef. Ian was the perfect guide through the landscape with plenty of information about the formation of the range and some of the plants and animals along the way, but he was also just a great companion for a day in the great outdoors. It felt like we parted as friends and I'll cherish my memories of the day. Ian supplied binoculars allowing me to spot an orca on the reef from the ridge we were taking a break on which was magic, and I loved seeing all the rock wallabies, bats and birds. There was a fossil of a brain coral reminding us of how the range began, and our walk finished along the beach with its torquoise waters. Overall, Trek Ningaloo offers the chance to explore a beautiful and ancient place and is the perfect addition to a trip around Ningaloo for anyone who likes nature, disconnecting from devices or a decent workout.

5.00The trek was an easy walk. You just need to watch your step as you are walking over loose stone mostly. Ian was very informative and pointing out fauna and flora along the way. We had stops for m/tea and lunch. Finished off with chance to take a swim if you wanted. Recommend day out.

5.00This was a fantastic all-day trip and a wonderful introduction to Cape Range and the Ningaloo Reef area on our first day in Exmouth. Ian is a knowledgeable, friendly and professional guide who knows the area, wildlife and history very well. The trip was well organised and I would highly recommend it. I travelled with my 3 adult sons, and we all had the best day.

5.00Ian was very knowledgeable and conducted a wonderful tour. The pace was well suited to the group. Ian clearly has a passion for what he does and we were grateful for his local recommendations for the rest of our stay. The cold drink & swim at the end of the walk was welcomed. We would definitely recommend this tour to those visiting the Exmouth region who enjoy hiking. You learn so much about our breathtaking country from people like Ian :)
