- Review from Viator
I was so excited about this tour with all the promises of an adventure, but found myself frustrated and insignificant. The disappointment began when I jumped on a coach with 50 other people, when it was stated that I would be on an intimate tour up to 12 guests. I found that I was one of 4 English speaking guests on a Chinese tour. The tour guide Daniel, spoke Chinese as a first language to the majority of the guests, and conveyed very little information in English, leaving out important information like daily start times and letting us know there was breakfast included when the others all knew. Chinese guests were prioritised when it came to restaurants, and because I have a dietary requirement I did not join the meal plan option, and due to missed meals when the bus would go to isolated restaurants in the opposite direction of the town centre. In Salmon Arm the accommodation ‘Hilltop Inn’ was so far from the downtown area, and with it being such a quiet and remote area, there was no way to find public transport to access restaurants. We had to walk several kilometres in the rain to have dinner because we were not part of the group who were on a meal plan. We did not join the meal plan only because we have strict dietary requirements and due to this, we felt discriminated against, as the bus took the group with meal plans to a restaurant, but did not offer to provide any transport or aid to those not on a meal plan. The tour guide did not inform us in English that breakfast was provided at the motel, and before commencing the following days tour, we found most of the Chinese guests were having breakfast, so it seems they were advised. On top of this we were promised accommodation in Banff for New Year's Eve and instead were taken 40 minutes away to a very remote casino. The final bad taste left in my mouth was the tips disguised as 'service fees' which was forcibly taken under duress. At Lake Louise we opted for the extra activity of Horse Sleigh and it was extremely stressful knowing where to meet, it felt very unorganised and almost like they weren't interested in taking the group to the correct meeting point. I would only recommend this tour to Chinese speakers only, since the tour was catered towards them.
