Asakusa
Asakusa (浅草) is the center of Tokyo's shitamachi (literally "low city"), one of Tokyo's districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives. Asakusa's main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.
Imperial Palace
This tour does not include access to the inside of the Imperial Palace** The current Imperial Palace is located on the former site of Edo Castle, a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls in the center of Tokyo, a short walk from Tokyo Station. It is the residence of Japan's Imperial Family. Edo Castle used to be the seat of the Tokugawa shogun who ruled Japan from 1603 until 1867. In 1868, the shogunate was overthrown, and the country's capital and imperial residence were moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. In 1888 construction of a new Imperial Palace was completed. The palace was once destroyed during World War Two, and rebuilt in the same style, afterwards.

This was the perfect tour to experience the wonders of Tokyo. We arrived in Japan the day before and had requested a few activities. Our tour guide, Mako, was very helpful and accommodating. Traveling around Tokyo by subway and train helped us understand the (for us) complicated system. We visited various attractions, including Meiji Shrine and Shibuya Scramble Crossing. Mako stayed longer than the tour time to make sure we understood everything we wanted to see on the tour. I highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful day with Mako! She is very kind, knowledgeable, and considerate. We traveled with a family of eight, from our teenage daughter to our elderly parents, and she made sure everyone had a great time. Mako always looked for elevators for my mother, who struggles with stairs. She also took us to fun places, like the Rainbow Cotton Candy Shop in Harajuku. Mako was very patient with our teenage daughters when they wanted to shop at a clothing store. She balanced the day well and provided excellent commentary about the places we visited. After enjoying the delicious food, Mako suggested a great restaurant for dinner and even made reservations, which was really helpful. Overall, it was a great way to spend our first day in Tokyo. We were packed with things to do, but Mako was considerate of everyone's pace and energy. Plus, she's very kind and fun to talk to. I highly recommend her!

On our first day in Tokyo, Mako arranged our entire itinerary. She started by asking about our interests and then built the route around them. She combined famous spots with quiet backstreets, carefully ensuring we wouldn't feel overwhelmed. She handled navigation, clearly explained cultural etiquette, and maintained a smooth pace while making sure we had time for photos and questions. By the tour's end, we had a solid feel for Tokyo's streets, gained confidence using public transportation, and were filled with excitement for the rest of our Japan trip. If you're visiting for the first time, definitely book Mako. She'll save you hours of wandering and give you a thoughtful tour of Tokyo.

The guide had made reservations in advance for the places I wanted to visit, so I could relax and enjoy the tour from start to finish. Since it's not easy for us to visit Japan, making the most of each dy is crucial this experience was so perfect I'd give it ★10.
