What To Expect

”Please note: Prices are updated from April 1, 2026. March bookings remain available at the current rate.” This private, artist-led sushi experience takes place in our home kitchen and studio. Using seasonal ingredients and traditional Japanese tools, you will learn to make several types of sushi. The selection varies depending on available ingredients and ongoing refinements, but may include styles such as nigiri, inarizushi, gunkan, hosomaki, oshizushi, and temari. The class begins with an introduction to the meaning and historical evolution of “sushi,” followed by hands-on instruction in making sushi rice by mixing it with vinegar. With step-by-step guidance, you will prepare sushi yourself and practice using traditional tools, including Japanese kitchen knives. At the end, you will enjoy the sushi you made and may exchange and taste sushi prepared by others in the group. No prior experience is required. Class length and content are flexible. We have previously offered extended formats, including a two-day intensive course covering the full preparation process. For customized courses, please contact us before booking.

I learned how to make many different styles of sushi and enjoyed eating what I made was truly special. This class goes far beyond cooking, exploring sushi diversity and how food connects to Japanese history, climate, and daily life. The surprise handmade wagashi and matcha were delicious, and the thoughtful gifts were the perfect finishing touch. The host couple were artistic, warm, and inspiring. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Japanese culture.

  • I was invited by a friend to join, but it turned out to be very good

I'm not really interested in sushi or Japanese culture by nature. "I've also felt a bit distanced from the type of experience that emphasizes ""Japan is amazing.""" I was invited to this class by a friend, but I was relieved that there was no atmosphere. The history of sushi and fishing was introduced not to praise Japan but to explain how people have adapted to changing times and environments. He mentioned labor and environmental issues, but he was calm and not imposing. I don't usually eat much sushi, but this class helped me understand why sushi feels really good.

  • And the Dessert… Honestly Amazing

I joined this class with my family, and it turned into a really special time for us. Even when we didn’t understand something, Rei and Chie patiently explained it again and again without ever making us feel rushed or uncomfortable. The class is small, and they carefully watch each person’s hand movements, which made it very reassuring for beginners. We also learned a lot about how sushi has changed over time, and how it differs by region. Hearing these stories made the world of sushi feel much bigger and more interesting. Both Rei and Chie are incredibly kind and easy to understand. Rei’s English communication was smooth and clear, which made the experience comfortable for everyone. The dessert Chie prepared after the lesson was amazing — honestly like the final course of a restaurant meal. The space was clean and beautifully decorated with kimono textiles. From start to finish, it was a very comfortable and thoughtful experience.

I knew almost nothing about sushi, but with their careful guidance I was able to make it well. The explanations about fish handling and hygiene were clear and practical. Making sushi was much more fun than I expected. The renovated traditional house was beautiful and made the experience feel special.

Thank you very much for your help at the workshop the other day! Making sushi is a big difference between watching it and actually going there. At first glance, it may seem like a simple process, but I have learned that it is filled with many details and the wisdom of predecessors, from the preparation of ingredients to the formulation of ingredients, how to make it, and how to use tools. When I eat sushi, I have come to appreciate each one. It was also a new discovery to learn about the origins and evolution of sushi and to realize the fun of exploring the roots of everyday things! The story is also very easy to understand with the illustrations on the slide, and he explains the charm of various sushi ^_^ Above all, the warm atmosphere and hospitality of the two of you who taught me was very pleasing. I also felt very calm. Through this workshop, I rediscovered Japanese culture and history and learned about the fun of diverse cultures. I was able to interact with two people who were even more warm and had a very fulfilling time. Thank you so much for the wonderful workshop! And we hope that your workshop will spread to many people! With all my heart.
