Had a great time on the Matthew Turner sailing down to Santa Cruz. First night started with a sail on the bay and the crew showing us around the boat. After a peaceful evening anchored off Tiburon, we were treated to a delicious meal. The next morning, we headed out the Golden Gate and sailed down to Half Moon Bay. The crew quickly and efficiently fixed a problem with our anchor and we then had another wonderful evening anchored in the harbor. The next day, our crew got the sails trimmed perfectly and we quickly sliced through the waves on our way to Capitola. We saw the occasional whale and many sea birds. Throughout our voyage, the crew always made sure that they taught us seamanship and included us in the raising of the sails, steering the boat, and learning about all of the systems on the boat. My favorite activity was learning how to use a sextant to take a sun sighting. Our last day, we sailed around Monterey Bay and then concluded the voyage with a trip on the ships dinghy over to Santa Cruz. This was a great voyage that I will always remember.

Unique experience. I’m sure every trip is different because it’s powered by the wind. We got a spectrum of experience-exhilarating trip out in high winds and calm flat water on way back. Everyone was friendly and willing to answer questions and visitors were even able to participate hoisting the sails and tour below deck. Even kids got to steer the ship.
