Presented by the team from Willie Creek Pearls, this unique 1.5 hour tour offers a guided commentary on Broome’s fascinating pearling history. Travel back in time to an era of courageous people who lived a life of danger, fortune and adventure both on and off the water. Guests are captivated as 150 years of Broome’s unique maritime and pearling heritage is uncovered in the very environment where the history was made – amongst the mangroves on the foreshore of Roebuck Bay’s Dampier Creek.
Pearl Luggers is located right in the heart of Broome’s Chinatown and features a fully rigged and restored pearl lugger, the vessel synonymous with Broome, surrounded by a reconstructed tidal jetty and authentic pearlers store. It is without doubt the closest link to the pearling era of long ago where daily life ebbed and flowed with the comings and goings of the great pearl luggers fleet.

Very interesting visit. It was great to get a sense of the history of pearl farming in Broome and to understand the experience of the divers over time. The pearl meat tasting was interesting and delicious.

Best was a great tour guide! Very informative and well worth the hour you pay for! I think the biggest thing missing is the fact the oyster meat you eat is valued at $200/kg!! I knew no one who didn’t eat it on our tour of 9!

This tour contained a huge amount of information on the history of Broome, as well as local knowledge, stories from personal experience, passion for the area and the industry and a great sense of humor. Big Stew was great! The people in the shop were also very friendly, informative and very helpful but not pushy. I highly recommend this tour, great value for money

Great display and talk about the pearl industry in the old days. Well worth going to. We had a great presenter on the day, who took the time to fully explain the workings

This was a very informative and Hands On Tour. Everything was interesting. Often we hadn’t known about this or that until Best explained it to us. Great visual information. Old photos, films and a lot of actual artefacts and old memorabilia we were able to handle and look at, during the explanations. We had been in the Chinatown Store a few times and it all came together and instilled respect for oysters, the Divers and the beauty of pearls. We saw the stunning Pearl, Son of The Don too. We had done the Willie Creek Boat Trip and Tour with wonderful Dylan before this. The order done doesn’t matter but we enjoyed both.

After doing the Willie Creek Pearl tour & having Rahim as an excellent tour guide there we decided to do the Pearl luggers tour in town. Well worth it. Stu was great. Such a pillar of knowledge. We found it very informative & interesting. We weren’t going to try the Pearl meat but Stu sold it so well that we changed our mind. Very interesting. A must for anyone going to Broome to do both tours. Definitely would recommend. Plus hubby even bought me a lovely pearl which was such a lovely surprise. Special mention to Pam also. She was such a lovely lady to talk to.

This tour is fantastic, Big Stu was great, really informative and made it interesting. Loved that it was hands on and you try on things (the diving helmets etc) and try pearl meat. Great to hear about the history of the pearls in Broome.
