The experience begins with a ride through a historic district, before we reach a tranquil shrine setting, which we explore on foot. From there, we cycle through charming neighborhoods and peaceful wooded areas, gradually making our way to a serene Zen location—a hidden gem far from the usual tourist spots. Along the way, we stop for a delicious traditional snack at a family-run shop with a history that stretches back over a thousand years. Later, we ride through a quiet temple complex to visit one of my favourite rock gardens in the area. Afterwards, we take our time riding through calm backstreets as we make our way back to the starting point. The tour covers approximately 14 km and lasts around 3 hours and 45 minutes. It’s designed to be a perfect balance of riding and walking, offering a truly unique journey through parts of the city rarely seen by visitors.

This was one of our favorite activities we did in Japan. The electric bikes were a blast. This made riding the long distances and hills easy. The tour is very quiet and spacious. A lovely contrast to the congested crowds we had everywhere else. The shrines were amazing and very few people were there. (We did a 9am tour). Shawn was a great guide and provided us with detailed history of the sites that we could not find on our own. The small stop for tea and grilled mochi (Kazariya) at the oldest sweet shop in the world was a real treat. Biking experience is helpful as there are a lot of hills and biking on busy streets. Couldn’t recommend this enough. Ookini!!

The ebiking in this part of town--away from the crowds-- is lots of fun and Michael is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic explainer. That said, we were hoping for more ebiking and less talking. The first temple, especially, has way too much explanation. The sites and tea/snack break were well chosen and the tour picked up the admission tickets for all. Overall happy.

Michael was our tour guide and he was AMAZING! It was outstanding that he was from Nebraska and could speak English! That was such a treat. Secondly he had been a history teacher. Bonus! We learned soooo much. He told us many historical stories that were entertaining and valuable. He knew the language. He knew the history. He knew the traditions. Thanks to his awesome story telling, we learned about different types of Buddhism and found that so interesting. He is a gem! You will be lucky to have him as your guide!

Highly recommend! Michael is a delightful and engaging historian —blood, tea, and zen! The Window of Enlightenment, the Window of Confusion, and 1000-year old mochi! I also loved his sense of humor and brief introduction to meditation. We are all enlightened, just most of us haven’t realized it yet…and it’s not a straight path.

Yuta is an incredible guide that is highly knowledgeable, perfectly English fluent and a really down to earth and patient soul. My wife and absolutely loved his Hidden Kyoto e-bike tour! It was our first time ever on e-bikes and Yuta went out of his way to make sure we were safe and comfortable. We definitely learned a lot that day about geisha, shrines and temples along with a snack stop at a unique spot most visitors to Kyoto will never see. E-bike don’t run to sign up upon your trip to Kyoto, you won’t regret it!

This tour was more than we expected in all the right ways. Our guide, Michael, was informative, friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable. We saw things we didn’t expect and learned a ton of new info about Japanese history and culture. Thanks for a memorable experience! We had a great time!
