Buckwheat has long been grown in Matsumoto, lending to its well-established tradition of Soba noodle making. This part of the country is famed as the destination for getting the best serving of Soba and so happens to be the locally Matsumoto City as well. But that's not all with the discovery of fresh authentic Wasabi of the region that awaits you!

As our Soba master says, “Nothing tastes better than soba noodles made with your very own hands.” While Soba is a simple dish by itself, making the noodles from scratch is a challenge that combines culinary art with precision knife handling and a dash of Japanese discipline.
- Discover all the secrets of real Wasabi
The real taste of Wasabi is not what you find in plastic tubes. Yes, the flavor of real Wasabi is just as spicy, but much fresher and more nuanced than the store-bought kind!

A minimum of 500 grams is required to prepare soba therefore, the soba-making experience includes a shared serving suitable for 2 or 3 people
There is no minimum age requirements
Children less than 6 years old can participate for free (Please note that the lunch is still extra)

What To Expect
The activity is divided into two stages: 1- Soba Noodle Making For a moment, you will step into the shoes of an apprentice Soba chef under the watchful eye of an experienced Soba master as he guides you through all the basic steps and the proper use of authentic Soba-making tools. It is 100% hands-on from start to finish, including getting to eat our own Soba noodle creation at the end! 2- Wasabi Experience Grate over Soba and try for yourself some real, fresh wasabi straight from the surrounding wasabi farms. If you've never had natural fresh-ground wasabi before, you’re in for a surprisingly refreshing treat!

5.00We had an excellent experience making soba with the soba master and learning about/ making fresh wasabi with Elodie (our guide). It was a lovely way to spend the day in Matsumoto and also gave us some great skills we can take home and try to pass on to our friends.

5.00Had a wonderful time making and eating soba! An easy low key activity especially if you enjoy soba! Kei was a wonderful tour guide. Learned a bit of history of soba making in Matsumoto and had a bonus of trying freshly made mochi which was not a planned!

5.00We had a fantastic experience making soba noodles with a soba master! It was equally lovely to enjoy our noodles and wasabi tasting in an authentic Japanese restaurant with a local English speaking guide. The soba master was incredibly patient and provided a lot of insight to the process and what it takes to make incredible soba, as well as the traditional way to enjoy wasabi (completely different than we expected). You should absolutely book this experience on your next trip to the Matsumoto or Nagano area.
