  I wouldn’t recommend Mojo Surf to anyone. We were taken to a beach with about 30 students and 3 instructors. There was a 20 minute stretching session and then 15 minutes of discussing in small groups any concerns and goals for the day. We then went into the water, where the waves were big and a few times I got knocked down so hard I ended up with some blood on my face. One of the instructors went off and surfed on his own the entire time - genuinely never saw him interact with a student. The two other instructors were trying their best but with 30 students and only 2 hours, I was never once spoken to or given advice. I ended up feeling incompetent and also like it was unsafe - they would not have noticed if anyone was getting hurt, and thus decided to spend the last 30 minutes of the lesson sitting on the sand. Wish I could have my money back as I learned nothing, felt ignored by all instructors, felt unsafe and did get hurt, and frankly got put off from surfing. I had previously done a lesson with a different surf school in Byron Bay and had a 10000x better experience, with one instructor for 3-4 students.

  The session was short but ended up being the perfect amount of time as it was difficult and tiring so everyone on the tour seemed happy it was only half a day! I’d love to come back and learn more as the teachers were great and really funny too and literally picked me right up from my hostel!

  The 1/2 day surfing lesson was brilliant I would highly recommend it, we were picked up from our hostel which was wake up in Byron bay, we were taken to the arts hostel where we changed shuttle buses which had the surf boards attached, the staff were very friendly and made everyone feel welcome, we got to the beach which was about a 20 minute drive, we immediately come down to the beach and started on with our surf lesson where we were told about the health and safety as well as practising our surfing technique before actually surfing, once we was in the water we had loads of help and the waves were brilliant! We were surfing for about an hour which was more than enough time, when our lesson finished we went back up to the bus and was taken straight to our hostel which was very helpful, a great day and couldn’t recommend it anymore!

  Awesome experience, staff friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend. I’ve done a number of surf days up and down the east coast this was the best.

  My partner and I had a really great experience. The staff in the shop and the instructor were so lovely, chill and approachable- total byron vibes. Our lesson taught us about the ocean, safety and techniques of how to stand up, it was very informative and chill. We had a great time, I had never surfed before and my partner hadn’t surfed in a long time so the lesson was really great for us. Our instructor was right there helping us catch waves while giving us personalised tips of how to improve our technique. It was heaps of fun, we crashed and burned a bit but we both ended up standing up- the whole experience was great. Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to learn and have fun while doing it.

  4 girls. 4 boards. Some seriously messy surf conditions. But some of the best fun we've had in a while. Nat, the owner of Mojo spoke at a business retreat we did in Byron in October so when we came for retreat #2, we knew we had to do a surf lesson. Our fearless instructor, Muz was patient, helpful and gave us all the tips so that we all stood up a few times! This is a must do for anyone visiting Byron. Mojo are the best! Thank you legends!

  Really cheap fun activity whilst staying in Byron. We were given surf boards and the instructors were really helpful and good with communication with everyone. Taught us the fundamentals and then helped us while we were in the water! Would do again!
