Fantastic day. Maddie was fabulous and even allowed us to buy the best coffee and hot chocolate that we have had in NZ so far. A pod of dolphins travelled with us at Milford Sound. So close you can see them watching you on the boat. Then we explored Gertrude Valley before heading back to Te Anau. Absolutely recommend this tour with Trips & Tramps.

We booked our cruise on Milford Sound with Trips and Tramps, who organise the whole thing including transfer from Te Anau. The cruise element was provided by Mitre Peak cruises. Phil, our driver, was a great guide, very knowledgable on the flora, fauna, geology and history of the area. He provided an engaging commentary throughout the whole journey. He also made a number of stops on the way back to see spectacular waterfalls and the forest. The boat for the cruise was one of two that Mitre Peak cruises run and is a moderately sized vessel, about median size of those we could see operating, so it didn’t feel too big, which we liked. I guess it took about 50 people. Pretty much everything is dwarfed by the outstanding landscape, so even the big boats looked small but the medium sized boats just seemed a better sized group of people to us. There was plenty of space on board to get good views.

It was a magical day. Our guide from Te Anau talked about the ever-changing landscapes—farmlands, national forest, and rain forest—on the way to the Sound. We thought the rain would ruin our experience, but it made it SO much better. The rain created hundreds and hundreds of waterfalls coming down the mountains—from a mountainside of narrow trickles or broader falls that spread out like spider webs as they neared the water (and that will disappear 2-3 hours after the rain stops), to year-round falls that became gushing torrents. The clouds mostly stayed ceiling stayed above the mountains, keeping our views unobstructed. It was incredible. We stopped multiple times on the way out for photo ops, and took two lovely walks on the way back to Te Anau. I would highly recommend this tour—and pray for rain!

Geoff our tour guide was exceptional - read the weather and quickly got to know our small diverse group to ensure that despite a rainy start we had the most amazing experience. Geoff stopped in really interesting spots on the way out to MS and explained various features - geological and biological expertly. We got to MS for the 11:10am sail with very little stress and no parking issues - it was very busy. Small group tour and small boat cruise meant we got close up to seals & waterfalls and we even able to join skipper Quinn ‘on the bridge.’ Lunch was great chicken salad wrap, flapjack, apple, cheese & biscuits. As it had rained on the way out - Geoff made an effort to show us more attractions on the way back - he was calm, considered and lots of fun (watch out for ‘dad jokes’) Thankyou for a great day!!! To those of you reading this - the trip may seem expensive - but driving to MS would be horrid and using local guides who know what they are doing - particularly here, is a no brainer. Also having just visited the Norwegian fjords in July, we were little concerned that MS would not live up to expectation - please don’t worry it did!! It’s just different Also

We gained invaluable insights into the local flora and fauna through his descriptions. Trips and Tramps ensures that it was a small group experience that was memorable. Would definitely recommend the trip to our friends.

My partner & I opted for a small group tour to Milford instead of driving ourselves so we could just sit back & enjoy the experience rather than worry about the traffic on the road or where best to pull in for views & walks along our journey. The minivan transporting us was comfortable wit wide windows through which to see the view. Our guide, Phil was passionate & knowledgeable - interesting & informative without cliches (so important to us as New Zealanders to hear a guide giving a balanced commentary rather than soft soaping things for international tourists). Phil obviously really loves the area and had immersed himself in the human, geological and ecological history of the area (and expressed a keenness to keep on learning & adding more info). The weather was overcast - just the right type of moodiness for Fiordland & fine for the walks we took on our journey back to Te Anau. The lunch provided was delicious - 2 wraps (vegetarian falafel was truly tasty), a slice, cheese & crackers, and a crisp apple. It felt fresh & lovingly prepared. The boat cruise which was part of the package was with Mitre Peak Cruises - a smaller boat but sturdy & so took us out past the heads. An excellent commentary plus a few jokes made for an excellent two hours. Phil met us off the boat & guided our group back to the right van before we made our way slowly back to TA, calling at a few choices places with a particular highlight being Lake Gunn where we skimmed stones on the picture perfect lake. Thanks Phil for a great day out!!

Even though it was a cloudy day, and we didn’t get to see any penguins, only seals, our tour guide was exceptional. The information he shared along the way about history and the animals in the area was outstanding. The side excursions he stopped at along the way there and back were wonderful. I highly recommend you choose this trip to Mitford Sound.

The company was fantastic to deal with. They are great at communicating and go out of their way to pick you up and drop you off. Our driver/guide Ro was fantastic! Her passion for the area and knowledge showed through in her enthusiasm sharing the history and culture of the area. The boat trip was unforgettable. The beauty is awe dropping! The ‘liquid sunshine’ added to the beauty of the day. Thanks for an incredible day!
