  Come hungry!!! We planned a few hours between lunch and this tour, but honestly, we could have skipped lunch so we had enough room for all the amazing food we tried!!!! This tour was on our first full day (3/30/26) in Japan and it was a great way to learn more about Izakaya culture first hand. Hawaii Joe served up some serious hospitality and gave us SO MUCH FOOD to try! We were full halfway through the second stop, but had to keep trying it all. Everything was amazing and tasty! It was a great way to try new foods without feeling like you potentially wasted a meal. Hawaii Joe made the experience fun and was able to tailor the tour information to our group. The whole group came together and really got immersed in the culture and experience! You can really tell Hawaii Joe has lived in Japan for a while now and has some tips and tricks to change the flavor of the dishes. We really appreciated how he made recommendations on how to eat different dishes so it amplified the number of things we seemed to try! We would definitely do it again and recommend it to travelers looking for a local experience. Thanks Joe! P.S., I almost forgot! I have a dairy allergy and the company was super cool and great about making sure I could still try the same number of dishes!   My family and I had a great time. JOE Was a great host! He was fun and lively. He made the experience worth it. The food was great as well! My son loved the gyoza! Thank you!

  Had a great time with Tadashi! He spoke perfect English (all self-taught via Seinfeld 🤣), showed us 3 different types of cuisine, ordered a ton of food, and had a blast. Loved trying Hiroshima pancakes, the freshest fish, and dumplings out into chicken wings. Highly highly recommend.

  Joe Higa was our guide for the Shinjuku Izakaya food tour on 3/30/26. The experience exceeded our expectations. The food was plentiful, fresh, interesting, varied and delicious. Joe had a background story for every restaurant, dish, ingredient and drink. While serving us the food he explained the best ways to, eat season and match drinks to enhance the flavors and authenticate the tastes. His energy, humor and attention were unflagging. Another highlight was a guided walking tour of the hole-in-the wall bar neighborhood of Shinjuku which had not been described in any guide books we had read. Through Joe’s explanations we understood the history and ambience as well as what to do if we decided to return on our own…an experience we never would have had without Joe. No question that our tour with Joe will remain one of the most memorable highlights of out time in Japan.
