It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves. This is true for many travelers, and my decision to climb Mount Kinabalu. meant overcoming one of my biggest weakness: endurance, flake weather forecast, injuries etc. Mt Kinabalu stands at 4,095.2 metres (13,435 feet) above sea level. It is a World Heritage site and the highest mountain in Malaysia. To help preserve the natural beauty the government decided to cap the number of visitors to Kinabalu each day. The rules also state you cannot climb yourself, and have to do with a guide or organised tour group. We opted for 2D1N trip duet to our limited travel period to KK. The first day was quite a tough climb. We trekked about 6km, up through the clouds to a little lodging nestled into the mountain side. The view was stunning, particularly at sunset as its foggy and the sunset shine from afar, and they fed us very well which was good considering how much we’d each paid for this trip. On the way to the lodging we were constantly passed by porters carrying luggage, food, drinks and heavy looking necessities. I asked our guide about them who told me these guys do this every day, making numerous trips, carrying on average 20-40kg each way each time. Hats off!! The Long Walk Down Mt. Kinabalu We had another great day of weather for the Summit trek to the peak, and the views were just as incredible. And as we descent though its downpour and foggy halfway, made the trek slippery and challenging on legs. It really showed why this is such a popular spot for travelers, and thankfully completely justified the rather expensive price tag. We made it down, just in time for the bus back to town. We were given a certificate to say we’d made it, but really all Iwe wanted was a warm shower and a well rested sleep…both of which I had as soon as I got back to Kota Kinabalu. Both of which were definitely well earned.

Every member of the Borneo Calling team was amazing! They were so helpful and truly made my experience memorable - from answering all my questions throughout the process to providing comprehensive info and organizing all the logistics during the trip. I came as a solo traveler and felt genuinely cared for the entire time. Their professionalism and friendliness really stood out. I’m absolutely going to recommend their service. Great experience and a great team - keep it up! ✨

Had a great climb. What I liked was Borneo calling adjusted to my experience. I was self drive and they helped me find location and time. I climbed fast and they adjusted lunch and dinner to fit my schedule. They arranged special transport. Also loads of little extra perks all the time. Great experience with a solid company. All in all they took care of me! Thanks to the team. I will be back.

The weather was great and the location was great. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The mountain guide who arranged it for me was so strong that from time to time I was told it was easier to go that way. I went hiking alone and it felt good to encourage each other with strangers I didn't know. Physical aerobic heart must be practiced well, easier to customer service alpine disease, physical beauty landscape mentality will be different. It was definitely a happy moment to stand at the top of the mountain, and that cloud was beautiful and unreal.

nice service for transportation from Kota Kinabalu to Kinabalu Park Accommodation for the first night in Hill Lodge is excellent and dinner is fine First day climb is a bit tough for the last two km but the mountain guide is very considerate, he carried my 2 kg backpack for me. Accommodation for the second night is clean and tidy On the third, start climbing to summit and glad to see the first daylight. Then go downhill and have lunch before transfer back to Kota Kinabalu An unforgettable experience

Booked this 3D2N Mt Kinabalu hiking with Borneo Calling. Everything went well from booking till the end of the entire hike. The hike was amazing and everything effort and sweat is worth it. The tour guide, mountain guide and agent were very professional. The only drawback was the government hostel at panalaban which does not provide heater (for shower) though they have informed earlier but I did not expect the water to be icy cold. The room is extremely cold so as the bed as well. Good overall experience and would highly recommend.
